Despite the recent rise in temperatures, the City of Roseville continues to receive reports of new water service line freeze-ups.
To guard against potential freeze-ups, the City is still recommending that residents monitor the temperature of their cold water by allowing the water to run for several minutes and then measuring the temperature with a thermometer that will register temperatures below 30 degrees.
If the measured temperature of the tap water is below 35 degrees, please contact the City’s Public Works Department at 651-792-7004. Depending on the circumstances, City staff may recommend that you begin running a small stream of water the size of a pencil lead from one source in your home continuously until water temperature rebounds back above 35 degrees.
If you do not have water in your home and you suspect your service line may be frozen, please call the City Public Works Department and report the issue. The City will confirm the situation and may ultimately provide a list of contractors for the homeowner to contact in order to thaw the service line.
At its February 24th meeting, the City Council approved applying a credit toward the utility bill of residents who need to run water continuously in order to avoid a line freeze. Also, the City Council directed staff to use methods available to them to attempt to thaw frozen service lines at no cost to the resident. In the event that the City’s attempts to thaw a line are unsuccessful, it is then the resident’s responsibility to hire a contractor to attempt other thawing methods. City staff will provide a list of contractors to residents in those cases.
