Adventure-loving siblings Brooke, James & Zeke scoured eight parks in search of this year's medallion. On day three, these young seekers discovered it tucked inside the epic adventure tale "Treasure Island" in Pioneer Park!
The Roseville family has won a prize package valued at more than $1,200. Thank you to local community businesses who contributed to this fun family event as part of Rosefest 2024!
This is the second year the siblings searched for the medallion.
Eleven-
year-old Brooke led the hunt. She watched the video clues each day, and then did some online reconnaissance, looking at maps, park names, and amenities. Brooke said she enjoys mysteries including the Nancy Drew books, so treasure hunting appeals to her.
After Brooke noodled the clues and narrowed down the search to a few possible locations, her brothers James, 9, and Zeke, 6, helped scour the parks. She originally thought Keya Park, with its new name and new playground, might hold the prize, so they explored there.
The family also searched at Keller Mayflower, Howard Johnson, Rosebrook, Langton Lake, Applewood and Oasis park twice before finally honing in on Pioneer Park. This is first time the family visited several of these parks.
The “resting in peace” line in Clue #3 had the siblings searching memorial benches at several parks before zeroing in on Pioneer Park near Roselawn Cemetery.
Brooke pulled the copy of “Treasure Island” from the Little Library to reveal the medallion around noon on Thursday.
“We started jumping up and down. We were so excited,” Brooke said.
The siblings, accompanied by their mom Nicole, claimed the prize basket on Friday. Brooke, who is a figure skater, said she is most excited about the skating passes at the Roseville Skating Center. James and Zeke, who play baseball and take tennis, are excited to spend the gift cards.
Congratulations Brooke, James, and Zeke!
2024 Golden Rose Medallion Hunt clues deciphered

Clue #1 is an open invitation to get outside and venture into Roseville’s 32 parks! Our city has nearly 700 acres of beautiful public green space including marsh, prairie, and forest habitats. The Golden Medallion Hunt is a great opportunity to explore!
Clue #2:
"The first clue has been given with so much at stake
a prize basket awarded to those who chose not to wait.
This second clue here indeed will be much less hazy,
awards will be waiting for those who chose not to be lazy.
So get on, get going! Our Medallion is hiding
in a park off a well-traveled road it's location residing.
Clue #2 signals the medallion is “hidden in a park off a well-traveled road.” Pioneer Park is a short walk from busy Lexington Avenue. The clue also highlights the prize basket worth more than $1,200. Thank you to all our sponsors who provided fantastic prizes.
Clue #3:
"We've arrived at our third clue and still no Medallion.
Which is a bit odd because it's normally been found, then I suppose these first clues have been a bit harder.
So here is another, no need to go farther.
Past this oft-traveled road and just to the east you'll find our Medallion in this quieter park, resting in peace continue your search and do not delay.
The Medallion could be discovered by the end of the day!"
Clue #3 teases our intrepid treasure hunters that this year’s competition has been a “bit harder.” This clue again references the “oft-traveled road” Lexington Avenue and indicates Pioneer Park is “just to the east.” “Quieter park, resting in peace” lets medallion gumshoes know to look in a smaller neighborhood park vs. the more expansive Reservoir Woods. Rest in peace hints that Pioneer Park is near Roselawn Cemetery.
Clue #4
I'll get more specific with this here fourth clue
The park's name an alliteration, my gift to you
Another tip I have is to check high and low here
It won't be found next to a trail or forest where you might see a deer
Again check high and low, perhaps under a roof?
Where things are kept dry, indeed weather proof
That's all for today, I can't say much more
Get out in our Parks, go now! Explore!
Clue #4 appeals to word nerds referencing the double Ps, or alliteration in the name Pioneer Park. “Check high and low, perhaps under a roof? Where things are kept dry, indeed weather proof’ teases that the medallion is in a building or structure. This year’s medallion was hidden in a Little Library!
Clue #5
The final clue is here which is a big wonder
Our Medallion's location has not been discovered
Behold the fifth clue in all of it's glory
Its location in this park behind the cover of a story
This classic novel tells tales of adventure and treasure
With our Medallion inside, you won't want to put it down, by that I can measure
With that being said, we're all out of clues
Go find our Medallion, it's now up to you!
Clue #5 alludes to the medallion’s precise location: “behind the cover of a story. This classic novel tells tales of adventure and treasure.” The medallion was hidden in a hollowed-out copy of the classic adventure tale “Treasure Island” by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. The book was stashed in a Little Library at Pioneer Park.
