As part of an innovative partnership with AmeriCorps, a Heading Home Corps Housing Resource Navigator will join the City of Roseville Police Department's Community Action Team (CAT).
The navigator will help individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
According to a 2018 Ramsey County Community Health Assessment, Ramsey County has the highest rate of homelessness in the metropolitan area. The Roseville Police CAT is seeing an increase in unsheltered individuals who are being turned away from Minneapolis and St. Paul shelters that are at or beyond capacity.
The AmeriCorps navigator will work with the Community Action Team; a specialized unit designed to build partnerships with human service providers, non-profits, advocacy agencies, and other community organizations to creatively solve problems that cannot be resolved through traditional policing.
Similar to the mental health resource coordinator, the AmeriCorps Housing Resource Navigator will not replace the work of existing staff. Instead, the navigator will enhance the city’s existing services by focusing on housing for individuals or families who have a connection to Roseville.
Members of CAT have been partnering with the Metro Transit Homeless Action Team, People, Inc., Roseville Area Schools, Northeast Youth and Family Services, Karen Organization of Minnesota, Ramsey County Human Services, Source Minnesota, Bridging MN, Visit Roseville, faith-based organizations, hotel staff, multifamily dwelling management, and other non-profit and human services providers. The navigator will build on these relationships and establish relationships with individuals and assess their needs, set goals, and help navigate resources to overcome barriers to achieve their goals.
The navigator will work 40 hours a week through July 2022. The successful candidate will receive a bi-weekly stipend, health insurance, child care assistance, and up to $6,346 in tuition/student loan support. Individuals 55 years and older may gift tuition awards to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child.
