After just one year, the City of Roseville’s food scraps collection site has proven to be a resounding success. Already, 52 tons of food scraps and other organic materials have been collected for composting.
Roseville's food scraps collection site is located at the Leaf Recycling Center, 2580 Dale St., Roseville. It is open 24/7 to all Ramsey County residents.
Recycling food scraps and other organic waste returns essential nutrients to the soil and improves soil health. It also reduces the amount of trash that is generated, so residents may be able to pay less for trash collection.
Setting up a home organics recycling program is easy. Roseville residents can start by contacting the city at 651-792-7004 to arrange to pick up a free starter kit at City Hall. Starter kits include a small kitchen caddy, compostable bags and tips for success. Starter kits are also available at any Ramsey County yard waste site. Find locations at RamseyRecycles.com/YardWaste. If that is not convenient, a person can use any container with a lid and compostable bags that are available for purchase at most grocery and hardware stores. Be sure the bags are marked with the compostable logo from the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
Fill the compostable bags with food scraps and organics recycling materials. A list of accepted items is available at RamseyRecycles.com/FoodScraps. Bring food scraps to the collection site for free disposal. While there, grab more bags from the dispenser (two-bag limit per week). If the site is out of bags, contact Roseville City Hall about getting more bags.
For questions, visit RamseyRecycles.com/FoodScraps or call 651-633-EASY (3279), which is answered 24/7.
This site is for residential use only. No business waste please.
