The Roseville Fire Department will host an intensive 12-hour flammable liquids training course August 28-29. Multiple fire agencies within Ramsey County will take part in the event, which will be held at the Roseville Fire Station and a nearby facility.
The specialized training will provide participating fire departments with a better understanding of the distinct challenges and properties of flammable liquids, including crude oil, ethanol and refined petroleum products, and an opportunity to receive training on improved fire suppression tactics and safety considerations when dealing with these products.
With increased rail traffic of flammable liquids through the metro region, it is imperative for first responders to have a better understanding of the product they are dealing with to keep the public safe.
Firefighters will learn from an expert in the fire suppression field from Texas A&M University (TEEX). TEEX is widely regarded as a national leader in providing flammable liquids training.
The training will consist of both classroom education and hands-on training in the field during which firefighters will perform fire suppression, exposure cooling, and air monitoring scenarios involving rail cars donated by the Minnesota Commercial Railway.
The training event is an important opportunity for fire departments to test local procedures and joint regional response operations. It is being planned in cooperation with multiple agencies, including the Roseville Fire Department, Ramsey County Emergency Management, and the Minnesota Commercial Railway and is funded by grant dollars from Ramsey County Emergency Management.
