Minutes
February 10, 2010
Call to Order:
Chairperson Weldon called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
Members Present:
LuAnne Pederson, Melissa Weldon, Patrick Schmidt, Margo Fjelstad,
David Horsager
Members Absent:
None
Others Present:
City Manager Bill Malinen, City Attorney Mark Gaughan
Approve Minutes of November 4, 2009:
Horsager moved, Pederson seconded, approval of the minutes
of the November 4, 2009.
Ayes all.
Review 2009 Annual Ethics Training Session:
Commissioners Pederson and Weldon noted that they liked the
Audience Response Units (ARU) method of involving participants.
The Commission discussed use of other trainers than the
City Attorney’s office.
The Commission discussed holding the Ethics training in
the spring after the appointment of new Advisory Commission members rather
than in the fall. A subcommittee of commissioners Horsager and Pederson will
work with staff to try to arrange a one hour breakfast time training in
April, if possible, but with a goal of just one training session in 2010.
Meeting with City Council
The Commission discussed the following issues to address
during it’s joint meeting with the City Council:
Reasons for training issues
Council input on training issues
It was the consensus of the Commission that Chair Weldon
would be the lead representative for the presentation.
Other Business:
Ethics Update Newsletter:
It was agreed that Commissioners Schmidt and Fjelstad would
be responsible for the preparation of the next newsletter. If they choose to
produce it on a semi-annual basis, that would be acceptable, but the
Commission would encourage a quarterly newsletter.
The Commission discussed the periodic posting of the
newsletter on the City Intranet or as an email.
Annual Review of Ethics Code
There were no recommendations.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.
