The City of Roseville’s newest greenspace will be called Sunset Park referencing its location on the western edge of the city.
The City Council approved the name at a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission on Sept. 16.
The City is developing the new neighborhood park as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to providing public green space within walking distance of every residence and the City’s Parks and Recreation System Master Plan.
Parks leaders designed the .8 acre park at 2381 County Road B after holding four neighborhood planning meetings in 2023. Sunset Park will include a playground, nature loop trail, basketball shooting area and picnic space.
In 2022, Roseville acquired the property via a combination of the city’s park dedication requirement for new development and cash purchase.
Construction has been ongoing at the new park throughout the summer. This Saturday, neighbors and other community volunteers will help staff and contractors install the new playground on the site.
“It’s been a lot of fun working with the neighborhood in the to design and develop this new park and it’s exciting to see it coming together. We’re looking forward to it being open to the public in the spring of 2025,” said Roseville Parks and Recreation Director Matthew Johnson.
Johnson added, “Studies show that close-to-home park access is essential for community wellbeing by encouraging physical activity, fostering a connection to nature, bringing neighborhoods together, and contributing to climate resilience, so this is an important area to be able to provide a new park.”
This will be Roseville’s 33rd park. Parks Superintendent Jim Taylor said the city has added three new parks in recent years.
The City of Roseville maintains 679 acres of parkland and open space and 67 miles of trails and walkways.
Roseville Parks and Recreation offers more than 1,000 recreation programs and events annually.
Construction of the new park is ongoing with an anticipated opening in 2025.
