Parks and Recreation will conduct a limited prescribed burn at Owasso Hills Park on Thursday as part of the City’s Natural Resources Renewal Program. Optimal weather conditions are required in order to conduct a burn safely.
The burns were planned for early April but were not able to be completed due to rain and persistent windy conditions.
Experienced city staff and contractors from Natural Resources Renewal partner Stantec will carry out the burns according to permitted burn plans for each site.
Prescribed burns help improve the growth of native vegetation, including shrubs, grasses and wildflowers. The fires also help control weeds and other undesirable plants. Controlled burns safely mimic the natural burning process that helped form the prairies and woodlands of Minnesota.
