[ARCHIVED] A Message to the Community Regarding the Chauvin Trial Verdict

City Hall square

The jury in the Derek Chauvin trial has rendered its verdict. Derek Chauvin has been found guilty of the murder of George Floyd. Accountability has been served through the criminal justice system, but much more work must be done

for true justice to prevail for all members of our community.

I grieve for the senseless loss of George Floyd’s life. The murder of George Floyd has been traumatic and painful for our community, state, and the world.  Nothing will bring George Floyd back.  But we as a community can honor his life by strongly committing to remove the barriers of racism that continue to plague our institutions, systems, and as neighbors, how we see each other. There is not anything more important for us to work towards.

As City Manager, I promise to listen and continue to learn. Most importantly, I promise the city will follow through on our commitment to truly make Roseville a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful community where everyone can feel safe. I understand that in order to do that, the city needs to build trust by involving and listening to our community members.

As we move forward together in making meaningful change, I encourage members of the community to hold the city accountable and to use their voices to contribute in the betterment of all in our community. Let’s get to work.
