[ARCHIVED] Emergency Vehicles – Keeping Safe

Roseville Police remind you that when an emergency vehicle has its lights flashing and is stopped on the road, you must move to the lane farthest away from the vehicle. Emergency vehicles include ambulances, fire trucks, police cars and tow trucks.

If you are unable to move to the next lane because of heavy traffic, slow down and pass with caution. This rule also applies to freeway service patrol and road maintenance and construction vehicles that are stopped with warning lights activated.

If you are following behind an emergency vehicle with its lights flashing, keep at least a 500 foot distance from the emergency vehicle.

Knowing traffic laws helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely. The Minnesota Driver’s Manual provides additional information about driving safely.
