The Roseville Community Health Awareness Team (CHAT) is hosting Take Charge of Your Health Care: Asking Questions, Getting Answers on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Roseville Library.
The free seminar is the first of a three-part series designed to help individuals manage their healthcare by providing essential information about various healthcare topics.
Take Charge of Your Health Care: Asking Questions, Getting Answers will focus on developing skills in health literacy, which is the ability to understand and use basic health information to make appropriate healthcare decisions. Participants will be coached on asking questions of health care providers, reading prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) labels, and finding reliable health-related information on the Internet.
A panel including a pharmacist and two healthcare providers will offer practical insights into why speaking with your healthcare providers is critical to improving your healthcare. Facilitated small group discussions will follow the panel, which will include sample scenarios designed to enable participants to practice asking questions of health care providers, and reading prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) labels. Take-home handouts that reinforce these skills will also be provided.
Take Charge of Your Health Care: Asking Questions, Getting Answers is being sponsored by the Ramsey County Library, Roseville’s CHAT and the City of Roseville. Future events in the health education series at the Ramsey County Roseville Library include – Health Care Home: You & Your Primary Care Team, Oct. 1; and Your Health Care Directive: Getting Started, Oct. 15.
