[ARCHIVED] Help our Orchard

Orchard Tending.jpg

Earlier this spring the City of Roseville collaborated with The Food Group to plant an edible orchard at the Muriel Sahlin Arboretum. Now, volunteers are needed to help maintain the orchard.

The orchard was brought to life thanks to the efforts of volunteers and staff, who planted more than 100 fruit-bearing trees and shrubs. Moving forward, the orchard will provide a community learning experience for classes and for community members to learn how to grow, harvest and preserve fresh produce.

Fruits and vegetables that will be harvested over the years will be made available to the community and donated to local food shelves.

We’re looking for volunteers to weed and mulch around the trees and shrubs. Staff from The Food Group will explain the project, lead volunteers, and teach participants how to care for the fruit-bearing trees and shrubs.

Wednesdays, September 14 and 28
Rain or shine
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Muriel Sahlin Arboretum, 2525 North Dale St.

To volunteer, contact Kelly O’Brien at 651-792-7028 or kelly.obrien@cityofroseville.com.

The Food Group is a non-profit organization that provides healthy foods and resources to hunger relief agencies in Minnesota. Their Fruits of the City program helps communities grow and harvest local fruit for those in need.
