In an emergency, every second counts. The City is expanding its lock box program to residential properties. Firefighters will be able to get into a home using a key, rather than forcing entry through a door or window.
The City of Roseville requires buildings with fire alarm systems, automatic sprinkler systems or other extinguishing systems to have a key box. Multi-family buildings with secured or restricted entry, large 1- and 2-story buildings, and large complexes with multiple entries are required to have multiple key boxes called Knox Boxes.
Knox Boxes give firefighters quicker access into a building in an emergency.
The Roseville Fire Department now has Knox Homeboxes available for sale to Roseville residents. They anticipate using this primarily during medical emergencies. The boxes cost $200 each, and a firefighter will work with the family to correctly install the box and insert a key that can only be accessed in an emergency.
If you are interested in purchasing a Knox Homebox, contact the Fire Department at fireinspections@cityofroseville.com or call 651-792-7340. Once an order is placed a fire inspector will schedule an appointment to come out to your home to install the box.
