Volunteer Spotlight: Police Reserve Officer Tam La Hu Ya

When he started volunteering:

Tam La was interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement so he joined Roseville’s Explorer program to get a first-hand glimpse into the challenges and skills needed to be a police officer. Transitioning from Explorers to a Reserve officer was the right fit for Tam La.

Why he volunteers for Roseville:

Tam La came to Roseville as a refugee. The community provided so much for him and his family that he felt that he needed to give back. Tam La did not have the financial means to repay what his family has received so he decided to donate his time as a way to thank the community.

Because he volunteers:

Through Tam La’s help the police department is able to expand its outreach. Reserve officers assist at times of high need – from helping during a crisis to directing traffic during parades and festivals. Reserve officers also assist with prisoner transports, property watch checks and other tasks, freeing up officers’ time to pursue serious crime.
