Fire Department Updates

Chief’s Corner

We at the Roseville Fire Department hope all of you had a safe and joyous Thanksgiving with your family and friends.  The winter months typically result in an increase in the number of fires we experience.  This increase is mostly due to an increase in the use of the stove and oven for cooking, improper use of space heaters, smoking more indoors, and use of fireplaces.  Please make sure you are taking the appropriate precautions in your home to keep you and your loved ones safe.  The National Fire Protection Association and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal have fantastic resources to help keep your home safe in winter months.  More information can be found here:

Our Department continues to be as busy as ever, on pace for a record annual call volume in 2021.  We take pride in being ready and able to serve our community and want to be there for you in your greatest need no matter the emergency.  If you have any fire or emergency medical prevention needs please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Maplewood Auto Aid

During the month of November crews assisted Maplewood Fire Department with automatic-aid on two separate building fires. The first fire was in a single family home having started in the living room causing significant damage to the structure. Roseville Firefighters assisted with fire attack and an extensive overhaul operation. The second fire, happening just 6 days later was in a Maplewood Apartment building, crews were assigned to assist with search and rescue operations as the occupant reported her brother was still inside. Crews rapidly deployed to conduct a search locating no additional occupants inside the apartment. Roseville Fire has several automatic aid agreements with our neighboring departments to provide assistance on critical incidents in their communities as well as bringing our neighboring departments to assist on ours.

Package Delayed?

November saw Roseville Firefighters respond to an uncommon incident on the highway that may just have been responsible for your package delivery delays. Firefighters arrived on Highway 36 at Snelling Avenue to find a semi that had tipped over while entering on Highway 36. The semi belonged to a national package delivery company and was full at the time of the crash. Thankfully only minor injuries occurred to the driver and no other vehicles were involved, firefighters remained on-scene of the incident for several hours to assure no fire or hazardous materials issues occurred.

Emergency Response

The Fire Department continues to see a significant increase in 911 calls for service. November ended with nearly 500 emergency incidents. With this monthly total we have now surpassed our busiest year for calls for service in department history and we still have another month left in the year!! Stay tuned to our social media for our annual chance to guess how many calls for service we will end the year with!

November Training Highlights

Outdoor Training

November was extremely mild which allowed some additional outside training by our crews. B-Shift took advantage of the great weather to conduct some operator training on our ladder trucks. Crews practiced moving the ladder close into windows and doors to rescue a trapped victim. This type of training is critical to making sure our firefighters can properly and safely operate the ladder truck under the stress and pressure of an emergency incident.

Incident Command Training

The Incident Command system is a critical system for how we manage our emergency incidents. Over the last several months our newest firefighters have been training on the Blue Card Incident Command system that is used throughout Ramsey County. This training culminated with three days of hands-on classroom training where firefighters utilized this system to manage simulated emergency incidents. All firefighters must complete this training program that includes over 60 hours of training.
