Chief’s Corner

October was fire safety and fire prevention month.  And while most of you are reading this in November, it is still a wonderful time of year to take an opportunity with your family to check smoke alarms, change batteries, install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, and develop an escape plan and meeting place in case of emergency; these safety measures in your home save lives every day!  If you have question about any of these items, do not hesitate to reach out to us via phone or email.  We can help answer questions on appropriate locations of alarms, and provide other fire safety tips and advice.  We are here for you.
The NFPA also has great resources and activities you can do with kids. Check it out here!

So far, October was our second busiest month of the year! And it only fell short by one emergency call! Our firefighters continue to work hard and stay dedicated to keeping our community safe. Stay tuned to see if 2021 will be our busiest year ever..

October Community Events

Open House

On Saturday, October 16th we hosted our annual open house at the Fire Station.  It was great to have a couple hundred people come through our doors, explore the fire trucks, see demonstrations, and learn how to do hands-only CPR.  Fire safety is a core service of our community and an essential service that we offer the community. Keep checking our social media and website for more fun station events and activities!

L5051 Fill the Boot!

In partnership with IAFF Local 5051 the Fire Department participated in a fill-the-boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in October. Firefighters “filled the boot” at the Lund’s & Byerly’s in Roseville and raised over $7,000 for MDA! Thank you to our community to the incredible support!

Breast Cancer Awareness T-Shirts

You may have seen our firefighters wearing a slightly different uniform during the month of October. The firefighters union, IAFF Local 5051, organized a fundraising initiative for breast cancer awareness helping to raise funds for research while also getting the firefighters into some “pink” T-Shirts.

Fire Prevention Month

October was Fire Prevention month and while the Fire Department hosted our open house to raise awareness, we also visited numerous elementary age students throughout Roseville during the month. These visits provide the Fire Department with a unique opportunity to discuss fire safety with the youngest members of our community helping to assure they understand some of the critical concepts in fire safety.

October Notable Events

Baby Delivery and Resuscitation

It doesn’t happen often when our firefighters deliver a baby in the field but in October firefighters not only helped deliver the baby after complications during delivery, but they also discovered that the baby was not breathing and did not have a detectable pulse. Firefighters and Police Officers immediately began life saving resuscitation of the newborn which continued throughout transport to the hospital. It has been reported that as a result of the actions of the First Responder, the baby is doing great and is expected to make a full recovery!

Cody Thornberg

Lieutenant Promotion

During the month of October the Fire Department conducted a promotional process to fill a vacant position of Lieutenant. Firefighter Cody Thornberg will begin as our new Lieutenant assigned to our C shift on November 3rd. We look forward to having Cody as a member of our leadership team!

October Training Highlights

Vehicle Extrication

During a vehicle accident there is a potential for occupants to become trapped and they may need to be extricated from the vehicle. Auto extrication is a highly technical and labor intensive task that all members of the Roseville Fire Department are trained on. In this photo we see Firefighter Dan Hong training with one of our battery powered extrication tools. The tool he is holding weighs approximately 44 lbs. We carry one of these battery powered extrication tools on each of our medical units. In addition we have a full set of hydraulic extrication tools located on our engines.
