Fire Department Updates

July was a busy month for the Roseville Fire Department. From an increase in the number of events happening in the community to our busiest Fourth of July ever, check out what we have been up to!

Chief’s Corner

We are in the midst of the dog days of summer; it is hot and dry out there. Please be mindful of the requirements around recreational fires, discarding of barbecue/cooking materials, disposing of cigarettes, and the use of fireworks. With our current conditions, brush and grass fires are a serious concern. We experienced several fires over the July 4th holiday related to this.

In addition, as we experience these different heat waves throughout the summer, it is important to ensure you are properly hydrating, getting into the shade or air conditioning as much as you are able, and taking appropriate precautions to keep yourself safe. Please check on your neighbors, especially the very young and the very old during times of high heat and humidity.

Stay Safe!

July Community Events

Fridays with Firefighters

Thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated our first Fridays with Firefighters in two years! We had a blast dunking the Assistant Chief, jumping in the bounce house, spraying the hose, and exploring the trucks. Don’t miss our next event on Friday, August 20. You can stop by anytime from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Block Parties

It is great to get back out into the community and meet everyone! If you and your neighbors have a block party planned, and if it fits in our schedule, we will swing by. Call Emily Nelson at 651-792-7309 and let her know about your plans.

Pyro the dalmation

Hey, Pyro!

Roseville Fire participated in the Slice of Shoreview parade at the invitation of the Lake Johanna Fire Department. In addition to our firefighters being in the parade, a special guest made an appearance as well. Say hello to Pyro the Dalmatian! The crowd was excited to see our new ladder truck in the parade, but we have a feeling that Pyro stole the show and was a huge hit with everyone as we made our way up Victoria Street.
Special thank you to Lake Johanna Fire for the invitation!

Notable Events

July 4th fire

Busy Holiday

This year July 4th proved to be an extremely busy night for Roseville firefighters. In what was likely one of the department’s busiest nights ever, we responded to four building fires (all involving single family homes) as well as nine additional trash/rubbish/grass fires. Mutual aid from our neighboring departments of Maplewood, Little Canada, and Lake Johanna was heavily relied on to meet significant increase in emergency response. Thankfully, no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters at any of the incidents. These events are a good reminder that you should not place anything hot or recently hot into plastic garbage containers.

Lake Johanna Assist

Lake Johanna firefighters were called to assist with a small brush fire in the park near Dale St. and Roselawn Ave. The specialized grass truck that LJFD responded with provided easier access to the fire, which was located a significant distance from a road or pathway. Partnerships with our neighboring departments are a key component of our ability to successfully serve the Roseville community as an all-hazards department.

July Training Highlights

Training is integral to assuring our firefighters are properly prepared to meet the rigorous demands of emergency response within the community. In these pictures, firefighter Yborra is practicing different techniques to stop the flow of water from a fire sprinkler system. Crews also spent time practicing different techniques for deploying ground ladders safely and effectively. In addition to these skills, crews spent time refining their cardiac arrest (CPR) skills by incorporating newly acquired medical devices into this process to improve patient outcomes when sudden cardiac arrest occurs.

New Construction Training

Construction is in full swing throughout Roseville with some very large multi-family buildings nearing completion on Country Road C and Fairview Ave. The on-duty firefighters joined their shift-based fire inspector for a final inspection at one of these buildings. The inspection allowed the firefighters an opportunity to see the construction process as well as the fire and life safety features incorporated into the building. Take note of the heavy timber construction going into the buildings’ clubhouse, a rather rare construction style in our area.
