Stop Package Thefts

Package Theft.jpg

The way we shop is changing, and this year, more than ever, people are shopping online and having packages delivered to their home. Mail carriers and package delivery companies are dropping packages and gifts at our doors.

Unfortunately, thieves are taking this opportunity to grab packages that are left at the doorstep. Roseville police offer suggestions to help prevent package theft.

  • If possible, have packages delivered to a trusted friend or neighbor who will be available at the delivery time.
  • Ask the delivery service to deliver your package for pick-up at their local shipping location.
  • Track package delivery times. Many delivery companies provide real-time schedules and can alert you when a package is delivered. Tracking and local shipping information is available at:
    • United States Postal Service: www.usps.com
    • Amazon Hub: www.amazon.com
    • DHL: www.dhl.com
    • Federal Express: www.fedex.com
    • United Parcel Service: www.ups.com
  • Install motion detectors lights and video cameras like Ring or Nest so you can monitor your home.
  • Identify a safe spot away from the front door to hide packages that are being delivered.
  • If you do not receive your shipment on time, check with the delivery service and confirm the delivery. If the item was delivered and you did not receive it, report the loss to the company and to the police.
  • If you see suspicious activity, such as a vehicle following a delivery truck or an unfamiliar person approaching a home, call 9-1-1. It’s important that the police hear from you immediately to increase chances of catching the thief.

Contact Roseville Police Community Relations Coordinator Corey Yunke at 651-792-7209 or corey.yunke@cityofroseville.com for additional suggestions.
