[ARCHIVED] Road Crews Continue Working on Streets

The City appreciates your patience with the snowplowing and we understand your concerns. This storm has challenged us, but please be aware that we are doing everything we can to make Roseville’s roads safe for motorists.

Here is more on the timing of our storm preparations. We pretreated some City roads with liquid brine on Friday. Saturday morning, roads were treated after the ¾” snowfall. Sunday morning we were plowing by 8 a.m., and finished by 6 p.m., but it was still snowing substantially. The drivers rested for four hours and were back again plowing and treating at midnight. This second plow was completed by 10 a.m. We do not have split shifts due to staffing levels, but drivers are required to rest after 12 hour shifts per MN Department of Transportation regulations. We were back out treating the roads Tuesday morning, December 11 and we will continue to be out until the roads are safe for motorists. Roseville does not have a “bare pavement” policy.

Most main arterials in the Roseville area are not plowed by Roseville. For instance, Larpenteur, County Road B, B2, C, Rice Street, Lexington, Hamline, Fairview, and Cleveland and parts of County Road D, Dale, and Victoria are roads maintained by Ramsey County. We cannot speak to their operations, or to the operations of surrounding cities. We are committed to safe winter driving. The nature of this storm required us to increase the application rate of ice control materials and we are using salt/sand to assist with traction. Temperatures should be more favorable the next few days to help with the melt and continued cleanup.
