[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Cleanup

1. Snowbird CleanupMore than 100 cars were parked on Roseville City streets when the plows came by last weekend. We are in the process of cleaning those areas and pushing the snow into the Right of Way to make the streets safe.

2. Cleaning out around Lift StationsWe are cleaning around our lift stations to provide easy and safe access for City utility crews. If there were a water or sewer emergency, we need immediate access to these areas, so it is important to keep these areas clear.

3. Ongoing Ice ControlThe City will address compacted ice and slippery areas. If temperatures rise, we will use chemicals to keep ice under control.

4. Benching Benching is a method of pushing snow with the wing of a snowplow truck approximately 6 feet back into the City Right-of-Way. The City Right-of-Way is used for snow storage and utilities. This helps make room for future snow events. During this process, we are doing our best to minimize snow being pushed into driveways. After benching, we will be clearing some intersections and addressing visibility issues.

5. Mailbox IssuesThe City has taken many calls regarding mailboxes that were damaged. The City is liable for a mailbox only if the mailbox was directly hit by a City plow. Due to the amount of snow with this most recent storm, the plows were not able to get close enough to the curb to hit mailboxes. Most of the damaged mailboxes were directly related to snow discharge. City code states “If a mailbox is damaged due to indirect contact, including the force of snow generated by the snow removal vehicle, the City assumes no responsibility.”

We ask residents to clear adequate space in front of your mailbox for mail delivery vehicles. The mail is typically not delivered if the mailbox is inaccessible for the vehicle.

How You Can Help:• Keep Fire Hydrants Clear - Roseville has more than 1,700 fire hydrants. The City does not have the resources to clear snow away from all hydrants. Fire Department and Utility crews will clear hydrants as time permits. We encourage residents to clear snow away from the fire hydrant nearest to your home. A clear space around a fire hydrant reduces the time it takes for firefighters to hook up hoses if there is a fire in your neighborhood.• Do not Shovel Snow onto Streets, Pathways or Neighbor’s Property - It is unlawful to shovel snow from driveways and residences into streets or pathways. This delays plowing and causes traffic hazards for the traveling public. Do not shovel snow onto your neighbor’s property. • Call 651-792-7004 to report hazardous conditions or to get information related to snow plowing.• Know the City of Roseville Snow and Ice Control Policy.
