The City is exploring the addition of several fitness pods in Central Park as part of the Inclusive Play Expansion project in 2021.
Fitness pods are stations that contain pieces of equipment that can be used by park visitors for strength, stretching, or cardiovascular workouts. Examples include elliptical machines, stair climbers, pull up bars and more. Outdoor fitness equipment can be operated by a wide variety of users, from teenagers to senior citizens and as they accommodate all ability levels. Studies have shown that outdoor fitness equipment can provide more equitable access to fitness opportunities.
The proposed pods are anticipated to be roughly 150 square feet each (though the exact size would vary slightly depending on what equipment is selected) and would be located in several spots in Central Park between Victoria St. and Lexington Ave. The scope of the current proposal is for three to four pods to be installed as a pilot. There is a possibility of more pods being added in the future once usage is better understood and funding is identified.
This project will be funded entirely by a private donation facilitated by the Friends of Roseville Parks.
We are currently seeking community guidance on potential locations and pod types. Please send us an email to let us know where you would recommend placing a fitness pod in Central Park.
Feedback will be accepted through February 14.
