Police Officer Hiring Process

  • Application Screening- all applications will be screened; applicants with passing scores will be notified by email of invitation to take entrance exam
  • Entrance Exam- three components are all multiple choice: 1) video-based situational judgement and human relations test; 2) video-based report writing test; 3) reading comprehension; time allotment is ~ 2hrs 20min; cost to take exam is $28 (cash or check to “City of Roseville” only; scholarships available on a limited basis- contact Police Services Manager for more info)
  • Oral Interviews- possibility of two panel interviews in one day should candidate be invited to second panel; second writing component may be administered as well
  • Physical Agility Test- commonly tested physical components may include 500 yard run, obstacle course, trigger pull, body drag and stretcher carry
  • Oral Interviews- 3rd Panel
  • Interview with the Chief of Police- the Chief will determine which candidates will participate in background investigations
  • Background Investigation
  • Conditional Offer of Employment
  • Medical Exam / Drug Test
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Final Offer of Employment
  • Police Officer Swearing-in Ceremony
  • Field Training Phase- a minimum of 16 weeks
  • Probationary Period- 1 year after date of hire
